This has resulted in slots revenue dropping a third, down to US$ 121.308 million a year. The number of bingo halls across the UK has increased quite drastically in the last 5 years from 678 to 526. In 2010, 25 bingo halls closed their doors.

Ernst & Young, a prominent accounting firm, has confirmed that many clubs are reaching the critical level of one hundred visitors a week. Any less than this, makes opening for business unfeasible.

The number of bingo players fell by 50%, down to 2.5 million in 2010. Profits were also down by 50% down to US$ 202.104 million. He also said that reducing the tax would save thousands of jobs.
