Mitchell Etess said this week  that the arrangement, which will start January 1, will allow him to pursue new opportunities such as seeking management agreements with other companies controlled by the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority.

He also said he wants to focus on health care and its costs for the 9,000 employees in Connecticut and 1,500 workers at the Wilkes-Barre, Mohegan Sun.

Jeffrey Hartmann, chief operating officer at the Indian-run Mohegan Sun and the authority's chief operating officer, will succeed Etess as Mohegan Sun's CEO.

Competitor Foxwoods Resort Casino in eastern Connecticut recently appointed a new chief executive at its parent company.
