The first casino ever in the state of Maine was approved by voters

On Friday, the developer of that casino, Black Bear Entertainment, announced that they have chosen land that borders on Route 26 for the casino. The facility will cost us$ 165 million to build, but once complete, it will be much more than a gambling hall.

Maine voters had previously been opposed to casino gambling, but the economy in recent years has left a large budget deficit in the state. Many Mainers also have lost their jobs, and the prospects of a new business coming in and creating thousands of jobs was appealing to voters.

Black Bear has laid out the plans for the new casino, which will feature a four story hotel that will have 100 rooms. Table games, slots, and restaurants will all fill the inside of the 603.8 sqm facility. The details of the price of the property that Black bear purchased have yet to be revealed.

Maine becomes the latest in the list of Northeastern states that have expanded casino gambling in recent years. Delaware and Pennsylvania have been the most aggressive of the states when it comes to gambling, while New York and Maryland have both added new casinos.

In Delaware, sports betting was legalized last year in an effort to bring new revenue to the state. Pennsylvania has made the biggest splash, with lawmakers legalizing table games earlier this year. The table games have allowed Pennsylvania casinos to cut heavily into the customer base at Atlantic City casinos.
