One proposal was that casino advertisements could only be flighted between 8:00 pm and 6:00am. DTI spokesperson Zodwa Ntuli said the changes were to clear up any misconceptions. “You may actually broadcast without advertising but at the same time, when you do advertising, you could be doing promotions at the same time. So that is what the regulations seeks to distinguish is that activity,” she said.

Casinos would still be able to sponsor competitions but Ntuli said they would have to tread carefully. “What is important is that the sponsorship should not be tied in with an advertising element that goes against the limitations that have been put in the regulations,” she added.
