GLI welcomed record number of regulators to Latin American Regulators Roundtable 2010

Presenting a wide range of topics were leading industry experts and GLI staff. Beginning the Roundtable were Ing. Francisco Leiva Vega, Superintendent of Casinos of Chile who spoke about the Role of the Regulator and GLI Sr. Director of Development Bill Treger, who spoke on the role of the lab. The important topic of verification tools was presented by Germán L. Vodopivec, GLI South America Technical Coordinator.

 

Electronic and Traditional Lotteries are of growing importance to jurisdictions across the region, and GLI Director of Engineering Rich LaBrocca presented information on new technologies that may impact lotteries. Ian Hughes, GLI’s Sr. Dir. of Engineering and Client Services, conducted two panels, one on iGaming, which is growing rapidly in Latin America, and around the world, and the second one on Information Systems Security.

 

Fighting money laundering is of critical importance to the security of countries in Latin America and around the world, and Economic Crimes Advisor Rick Hector from the U.S. Department of Treasury Office of Technical Assistance and José Alberto Sbatella, President of Financial Information Unit of Argentina jointly presented this topic.

 

Discussing their experiences, successes and challenges was a panel of regulators that included Adolfo Blanco Tatto, General Director of Pools for Public Assistance from Mexico; Yuri Guerra Padilla, Customs Supervisor and Responsible of the Technical Area of  DGJCMT of Peru; Francisco Leiva Vega, Superintendent of Chile Casinos and Daniel A. Papiccio, Technical Councellor, Lottery of the Province of Río Negro.

 

The event is part of the company’s GLI University, a program that offers continuing education and training to regulators around the world. The Roundtable is a one-of-a-kind event in the gaming industry, where regulators from diverse jurisdictions gather to learn about the latest technological developments and their potential regulatory impact, and to openly discuss regulations with one another in a private setting.  GLI offers the conference to regulators free of charge.
