The revelation from Bwin follows similar moves by sites including CasinoClub.com and PaddyPower.com just as Canadian provinces such as Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia begin to launch online offerings of their own.
“We regret to inform you that, due to the introduction of new regulations, operations of the download casino will cease as of September 23, 2010,” read an e-mail sent to Bwin.com players based in Canada earlier this week.
“There is good news, though. You can continue to enjoy your favourite games as normal in the Bwin instant-play casino and to make the transition even sweeter we’ll be offering you a 100 % welcome bonus. Get ready to switch now.”
The e-mail did not go into detail regarding the ‘new regulations’ it cited while numerous sources are reporting that the final decision rested with software provider Boss Media.
