A spokesman for the Assembly's Democratic majority says Speaker Sheldon Silver is expected to make his decision shortly. Governor David Paterson appeared impatient Tuesday. He complained lawmakers are taking too long to give final approval even though Genting has been the sole remaining bidder for weeks.
Genting wants to build a "racino" with about 4,500 video slots at the Queens track. The company is offering an upfront fee of us$ 380 million to the state, more than the us$ 300 million minimum required.
Paterson says the cash-strapped state needs the revenue as soon as possible.
