Changes to the Penal Code to ban casinos presented in Ecuador

Every person who sets up a venue that admits games of chance, bets, mechanic gaming machines, etc. that bring the public a time of use on exchange of a possible payment of a prize per plan, will be punished with two to four years of prison and a fine of 100 to 500 unified basic remunerations. It is one of the reforms presented.

The document, that is within the restructuring process of the Penal System boosted by the Government of Ecuador, proposes to replace article 313 of the current Penal Code that establishes sanctions for people who ”establish illegal venues or gambling halls, without the permission of the respective authority”.

It its place, it says that casinos that currently operate legallu in the country “will have an urgent deadline of  12 months, to be counted from the issuance of the present law to stop operating.”
