The lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California on June 12, 2006. Judge Ronald M. Whyte entered an Order granting IGT's motion for summary judgment on May 13, 2010.

The plaintiffs in the lawsuit were Aristocrat Technologies Australia PTY Limited and its U.S. subsidiary Aristocrat Technologies, Inc.

Aristocrat has alleged that IGT is infringing an additional patent (US Patent No. 7,582,014) and has a motion pending to add that patent to the lawsuit. IGT is opposing that motion and believes that it has meritorious defenses to these allegations of infringement.
