Although the issue has mobilized behind the political scenes, as well as the presidency of the Chamber, which organized two public audiences in March; the proposal lost strenght in the procedures due to the insercion of urgent projects, so it was postponed.
“If there was interest by the Management Table and the leaders in taking up again the debate and put the project in the guidelines, the decision on the return of bingos will be taken by the following government,” said the representative.
Almost 4,000 bingo halls were closed in February 2004 due to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, due to reports of corruption and money laundering.
The project, that has been in process in the Federal Chamber for months, received the approval of the Commission of Constitution and Justice, that determined the allocation of taxes for health, education and culture. The bingo approval may generate up to 250,000 new employments in Brazil.
