The total of the Peruvian Parliament approved for 60 votes in favour, four against and 13 abstentions, the modification of the General Law for the Prevention and Control of Tobacco Risks, informed the local media. From now on, the tobacco consumption is forbidden in all the closed public places in the Latin American country.

The president of the Congress, Luis Alva Castro, affirmed that underaged and youngsters will be favored with the approval of the law. "We must respect the health of the non-smokers, that are the majority”, he indicated.

The Framework Agreement of the OMS was approved in 2003 and ratified by 164 countries so far, among them, Spain. The European Commission issued last June a recommendation that urges all the member countries to adopt the necessary measures to ban the tobacco consumption before 2012 in all the closed public places.
