Casalta also pointed out that “the heavy registration formalities” of the French players on online gambling websites “will put a break to multi-registrations” and “will give a bonus to the first registration“. In fact, the process as it appears in the pre-specifications of the ARJEL requires a registration on the Internet site, followed by copies of ID and bank documents which need to be sent in order to validate the opening of the account.
This procedure has been copied in broad outlines from the one already used by the Française des Jeux. It can be noted that the sites offering games in the three authorised sectors (horse racing, sports betting and poker) will also be favoured since only one registration will be enough to go from one to the other. Besides, ARJEL would eventually prefer to have a few important operators instead of many small sites.
Moreover, the advertising investments made by online gambling operators could rise up to 750 million euros for the first three years of opening of the French market for horse racing, sports betting and poker, according to this seminar.
