Which were the casinos affected by the earthquake?
The casinos that were affected by the earthquake ocurred in Chile last February 27th are seven, located in the regions of Valparaíso, O’Higgins, Maule and Bío Bío: Casino de Juegos del Pacífico (San Antonio), Casino de Juego de Rinconada, Monticello Grand Casino (Mostazal), Gran Casino de Talca, Casino Termas de Chillán, Marina del Sol (Talcahuano) and Casino Gran Los Ángeles.
Which is the current situation of these gambling venues?
The seven casinos named present severe damages of different degrees, so they are not operating right now. The situation of each of them is the following:
-Valparaiso Region, Casino de Juegos del Pacífico (San Antonio): There is not visible structural damage. Some gaming machines fell and present breakage of glass. It is still unknown if they have major damage, because they must be revised by technicians. There is at least 1 centimeter of water in the floor of the casino by a burst of pipes. Detachment of some sheets of the drop ceiling. Destruction of dinner service and liquor bottles. It does not currently have electric energy.
-Rinconada Casino: There is no visible structural damage. A revision of the whole structure is pending. Fall of part of the suspended ceiling, lights and decorative cornises. Electrical installations must be revised properly and particularly in the areas in which the suspended ceiling fell. They do not currently have electric energy. Burst of pipes of the water softener system of the weather system. The water supply operates in a decorative cornise.
-O’Higgins region, Monticello Grand Casino: The evaluation of the venue was completed and there is no structural damage. Fall of part of the suspended ceiling, due to the burst of pipes of sprinklers against fire. There’s water in the floor of the gambling hall. At first sight, there’s no damage in the gaming machines, but a technical revision is pending to verify its operation. The 30% of the cameras of the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) are destroyed. The startup of the systems and support services of the gaming machines is in process.
-Maule region, Gran Casino de Talca: There’s water in the hall of the table game sector, due to the burst of the pipeline. Breakage of glass. Fall of part of the suspended ceiling. Assessment of structural damage in process, but not appreciated at first sight. Games of chance machines and CCTV are in revision.
-Bío Bío region, Casino Termas de Chillán: This venues did not sufre any damage. They are regulating some CCTV cameras. They are in a position to operate, but they are not allowed to do it due to the curfew.
-Marina del Sol (Talcahuano): No visible structural damage appreciated. A detailed evaluation has not been performed yet, because the personnel was told to stay in their houses. Fall of the total suspended ceiling, due to the crack of pipes of the sprinklers against fire, which also caused the fall of all the CCTV cameras. Around 70 gaming machines are destroyed. They have electrical energy partially.
-Casino Gran Los Ángeles: Minor damage. Deterioration of CCTV facilities, around 20% is not operating. Boiler and air conditioned do not work. The revision of games of chance machines are not able to operate.
How much time could it take to operate normally again?
Just some casinos have made assessments with regards to the deadline in which they could operate again. This way, San Antonio casinos estimate that, in three weeks, they could restart operating, while Casino de Juego de Rinconada between 60 and 90 days, Gran Casino de Talca in 60 days and Casino Termas de Chillán, once the curfew measure is concluded.
Which do you estimate that were the losses and what will be the amount needed to invest to repair the damage?
We still do not count with estimations with regards to the losses registered in each of the venues, because casinos affected are still in the evaluation process of the damages in their facilities, and are starting the process for the liquidation of the insurances committed.
