By activity, the highest percentage of electronic sales from abroad accounted for the tourism industry, with 70% of expenditure, followed by education and direct marketing, with 7.4% and 6.6% respectively. For operations, the biggest revenues were recorded in the tourism industry; it was 50% of total electronic commerce.
Tourism-related operations - travel agencies, air transport, land passenger and hotels, apartments and camping - accounted for over 40% of total revenues to 605.9 million euros.
In the second place was the direct marketing with 112.3 million Euros, followed by gaming and gambling, which reached 85.7 million euros.
The online sales grew at 13.2% in the last six months, from July to September 2009, reaching 1,503.1 million euros, with a record trading volume of 18.57 million of transactions, 8.5 % more than in the same quarter of 2008.
Most of the purchases were made in the Spanish sites, 54.9% of total e-commerce revenues, (824.9 million Euros), while purchases in foreign websites were 45.1% (678.3 million Euros). The positive figures of the third quarter of 2009 confirm the beginning of the online sales recovery after several months of decline in turnover.
