WSOP main event begins July 5th, 2010

In past years, players have had to play through the Fourth of July if they wanted to participate in the main event. This year, however, tournament organizers spared these players the holiday, and scheduled the beginning of the tournament for the following day.

There has been a change to this years main event. Instead of allowing players to pick which day they will start on, the WSOP will assign players a starting day. That will ensure that everyone who wants to play gets a seat, something that did not happen last year.

As popularity in the game of poker has grown, so has the need to create a schedule that is conducive to allowing the most players in any given event. Officials must also decide which tournaments should stay, and which should go each year.

In 2010, the Players Championship will replace the us$ 50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event. Last year, ESPN did not air the H.O.R.S.E. event, and that prompted officials to make the change to the Players Championship. The tournament will include eight different games, and will end with Texas Hold 'em at the final table.

With each passing year, it seems as though a younger player is winning the main event. Two years ago Peter Eastgate became the youngest ever winner. Last year, Eastgate's record was broken by main event winner Joe Cada, at twenty-one years of age.
