Poland: Online gambling bill could lead to censorship

(Poland).- The Office of the Committee for European Integration (UKIE) has criticized the governmental draft project for online gambling. Currently there are several hundred thousand players in Poland who gamble on the Internet.

Officially, online gambling is currently forbidden however there are no tools to execute these regulations. The new regulations envisage that internet service providers would have to block access to internet sites which would be indicated by officials from the tax offices, Internal Security Agency (ABW) or the police.

The Electronic Communication Office is to build a register of forbidden sites, which will also include pedophile and fascist related websites.

Before the draft bill is voted on in the Sejm it will be sent to the European Commission to assure that it does not violate any rights.
