Games of chance increase their winnings in Panama

(Panama).- The games of chance industry in Panama reported bets for us$ 1,2 billion at the end of Septemner, with an increment of us$ 98 million with regards to the similar period in 2008, according to official sources.

Data of the Ministery of Economy and Finances consider that every day us$ 4.7 million are counted in operations connected to this activity, despite the influence of the international crisis.

The amount concentrates the bets in modalities such as lottery, horse racetracks, table games, sports events and slots, not including the illegal ones. Besides, the contribution to the state in the analyzed period is of us$ 26.7 million, with the largest participation in charge of casinos.

As a comparison, the total of the first nine months of the year is equivalent to the 13 % of the public budget approved for the current tax exercise, of us$ 9,7 billion.
