Talking to InterGaming recently, the secretary of the executive board at Holland Casino, Ron Goudsmit, said that he believes the legalisation of online gaming could enhance the land-based business rather than threaten it.

"It's a good add-on to the product," he said. "It works well to have both sides; online and land-based," Goudsmit said.

The committee will be reporting back in March and Goudsmit added that he is confident the law will be passed eventually, arguing that the government did not have a negative attitude towards the internet the last time the law was up for debate.

"It had a lot to do with what was going on politically in the Netherlands. We're pretty confident that it will go through when the committee completes its work," Goudsmit concluded.
