PokerStars broke its own official Guinness World Record

(US).- Online poker room PokerStars has once again entered the record books after breaking its own Guinness World Record for most players at an internet poker room in an online tournament held earlier this month.

PokerStars broke its own official Guinness World Record on Sunday September 6th when 307,016 players at 42,814 tables took part in an online tournament simultaneously, beating the previous record by over 100,000 players.
 
It is the second successful world record attempt in the last two months for PokerStars, having recently broken its own record for the largest ever online poker tournament, with 65,000 players from 155 countries taking part in the tournament in July. In the process, the company also took the headlines and plaudits away from rival Full Tilt, who had also attempted to beat the record on the same day.
 
PokerStars recently concluded its eighth World Championship of Online Poker series, with nearly 44,000 players from 140 countries taking part in the 45 events, creating a total prize pool of over us$ 51.6 million. Ukrainian Yevgeniy Timoshenko outlasted a field of 2,144 to win the main event and us$ 1.7 million in prize money.
 
According to figures from the online poker tracking site PokerScout, PokerStars is currently the top ranked poker network in the world, ahead of Full Tilt Poker and Playtech's iPoker Network.
