Bolivian House of Representatives approved the bill that bans games of chance

(Bolivia).- The Chamber of Representatives approved last week a bill that bans games of chance in Bolivia, after some observations to be drastic in its sanctions, informed official sources.

"Attending these requests, a project has been formulated and approved and then passed to the senate, where several senators such as Luis Vásquez and Fernando Rodríguez have already anticipated their criteriun to support this bill”, informed the proyectista, official representative Gustavo Torrico.

He also explained that the aim of the law is to forbid the private operation of all games of chance, lotteries and bingos. The norm grants 30 days for the closing of these betting centers and sanctions offenders with penalties of up to five years in jail, he added.

"In case they do not close in those 30 days, it is established the seizure and distruction of all the machines (software, roulettes, computers, etc.) and the seizure of the buildings where those gambling houses are operating. So this activity is totally forbidden in the country”, he declared.

He informed that National Lottery of Charity and Health (Lonabol), will be able to adequate to be the entity of control of those places.
