Working 14 hours a day, if necessary, and having the conviction that “we do not have to expect luck to knock on the door, but we have to search for it,” are some of the keys for success listed by businessman Javier Martínez when asked about his formula to succeed in the business world, in spite of the adverse conditions.

General Manager of Enjoy, the first Chilean company dedicated to the business entertainment that started quoting in Santiago Share Market in the middle of the economic crisis, the current competitive scenario, far from being a problem for the familiar companies represents the possibility to keep growing and improving.

“Today the casino industry is defined in almost 100%; just a few projects are to be released and I think there will be a new and important industry in the entertainment and tourist sector in the country. I think the competence is good, it is good for everyone, and here is where we are going to see who are the good ones and who are better for the task and I am convinced of who they are”, added Martínez.

The executive clarified that he sees a quiet scenario for 2015, when the new casino law comes into force. “The truth is that, as a businessman, we have to attach to the current rules. Under the current situation, in 2015 we will have to compete to do the best offer for a new project in Viña. We are from Viña and we will make the best proposal for the city, now I do think there are some issues that legislators must talk and that authorities have set out, and I think they have to be solved previously. And that can generate any type of change,” he warned.

However, beyond economic damages that the new legislation may cause to the city councils, the executive noticed that “in 2015 these licenses turn to a new regime and, for example, this license in Viña could be located in any part of the world, it does not have to be in Viña only; it could be located in Casablanca or anywhere in Chile, because the Fifth Region already has a minimum of one and a maximum of three licenses per region.”

So he set out the need to solve this problem as soon as possible. “I think the issue of the important resources currently generated by casinos is a subject that also has to be solved by the authority, because, on the contrary, there will be a problem with the councils, that are structured with a budget and could not count on that. I believe these issues have to be solved and, once it is defined, we, as operators, will have to make the best proposals to keeo on working in the markets where we want to be,” stressed the executive.

Martínez added that “no doubt new investments will come, but the main thing is that I believe there will be a deadline that the mayors with casinos have set and I think the authorities in general have understood that there is an issue to be solved.”

In his opinion, issues set out by of the town councillors affected are solid. “The truth is that casino incomes are very important not only for Viña but also for all city councils,” he remarked.

In his view, the legal problem that currently exists is due to three factors, basically: “First, the casino law was delayed seven years or more; second, at that time, 2015 was far away, and third, all the people that know about this business are businessmen and we give an oppinion, but then, other people legislate. I think all this caused this situation that was regulated and, perhaps not in the best way, but it was regulated and nowadays they will have to know if this regulation must be modified or not, said Javier Martínez.

When consulted on the new projects in Viña del Mar, the executive said that “we are now concluding an investment project of us$ 350 million and we are dedicated to capitalize this investment process, without prejudice to that, there are small investments that are specific to the business,” concluded the businessman.
