Economy asks to legalize illegal slots in Puerto Rico

"There is a high amount of coupons that are forged. It means that, with the increment of the cost, the counterfeit will increase. If they are not authorized to pay prizes in cash, I think that no measure will be attractive because everyone, the owner of the machine, the operator and the player, want to have winnings,” said Puig within the Commission of the Senate in the Department of Economy.

"We have seen that they have a very profitable business and they are not reporting this income to the Department of Economy in their contribution file on incomes", added the officer.

He said that the legalization of these machines could increase the income of economy with the coupon, due to the contribution on income that the economic activity generates, and due to the contribution on the players’ incomes.

Besides, he asked the Department of Economy to be authorized to continue actively promoting the control, inspection and possible confiscation of these machines. "We will continue processing and investigating all the owners and operators related to this industry, for infringements on the Income Tax Code,” he affirmed in a press release.
