(Mongolia).- Members of Parliament announced last week that they have initiated a law on a proposed casino, which has “limited capabilities”. In a special metropolitan zone, the casino will only be accessible by foreign patrons, according to lawmakers.

The MP’s to draft the law were D.Zagdjav, Kyokushuzan Batbayar, G.Bayarsaikhan, Batj.Batbayar, Z.Altai, R.Bud, Kh.Jekei, Ts.Tsengel, D.Khayankhyarvaa and J.Enkhbayar.

“Casino industry will definitely contribute a lot to the recovery from economic recession,” said D.Zagdjav. He added that Mongolia’s economy should be “diversified” with foreign investment, saying that the law would not “repeat old mistakes”.

In the 1990s, the adoption of a similar casino law resulted in the imprisonment of three Members of Parliament on allegations of corruption, as well as the scrapping of the multi-million dollar casino construction in the center of Ulaanbaatar, the capital and largest city of Mongolia.
