The European Responsible Gaming Standard tests operator’s commitment to responsible gambling in a number of areas including research, staff training, game structure, online and telephone gambling, advertising and marketing and problem gambling training, information and treatment referral procedures.
Through an external auditing company, European Lotteries assessed a total of ten gaming companies who took part in the pilot project for the standard. “This is once again major recognition of our responsible gambling work. This certification is completely in line with the social responsibility we are expected to accept and which forms the basis of everything we do,” said Meta Persdotter, CEO of Svenska Spel.
“In purely specific terms, this assessment has involved reviewing matters and making sure that staff and business partners are receiving the right training, that there are clear ethical rules on marketing; and we have also looked at – for example – processes involving evaluation of responsible gambling measures aimed at players.”
Following the pilot project, European Lotteries is expected to roll out the standard amongst all its members following the responsible gambling meeting to be held in Istanbul this summer.
“Last year, we received an award from the WLA, naming us as the world’s top gaming company in the field of responsible gambling,” said Persdotter. “This EL accreditation further underpins our position. But there is still more we can be doing. There are a number of things that we can improve, and staying at the top requires even more development and renewal.”
Other state lottery and gaming companies who participated in the pilot included Austria’s Österreichische Lotterien, Loteria de Catalunya of Spain, La Française des Jeux, the UK’s Camelot Group, Finland’s Veikkaus, Germany’s Westlotto and Italy’s Lottomatica.
