During the session of the Permanent Commission of the LIX local legislative body, the leader of the parliamentary fraction of the Party of the Democratic Revolution, Graciela Domínguez Nava, reported that, despite the fact that in Culiacán there are six casinos in operation, it deprives the intention of the district council to authorize the installation of a new betting center.
Nava pointed that article 156 of the Political Constitution of the State literally stipulates that in this entity all games of chance are strictly forbidden. It qualifies them as vices and orders that, in order to eradicate them, the law must be severe and authorities must be unforgiving.
Besides, Alejandro Higuera Osuna, member of Acción Nacional, pointed that, in this entity, given illegal activities generated by “dirty money”, there is a risk that resources from these activities are investing in the installation of new casinos. He observed that, in the latest months, there has been strong confiscation of millions of dollars hidden in security houses.
He also indicated that this kind of business does not generate any tax to councils or states, so it exhorts all mayors not to issue licenses or construction permits.
