Intralot CEO Constantinos Antonopoulos said that Italy’s AAMS, the State Monopolies Autonomous Administration, is planning to launch new tenders for instant lotteries and slot machine licenses later this year, both of which are set to expire in 2010.
"We are definitely interested in the Italian market and we will pursue the opportunities that arise," Antonopoulos told Reuters.
Last month the AAMS said that gambling spend in Italy increased by 9.5% during the first two month of the year to 8,639 million euros, with slot machines accounting for 45% of the total.
The total amount spent on gambling in Italy during February increased 11% year-on-year, but fell 9% versus the previous month.
