Due to come into force on January 1st 2010, the regulations of the French gaming market will see online gaming operators subject to a tax of 7.5% of revenues on sports and horse betting, with licenses valid for a period of five years.

"For Intralot, liberalization of the online betting market in Europe is a big opportunity as our company has the structure, know-how and necessary presence to take advantage of the opportunities," Intralot CEO Constantinos Antonopoulos told Greek financial daily Imerisia.

"The latest developments in the European gaming market are triggering global developments and we expect liberalization in online gaming in many other countries, like Australia, which is also a country that we are interested in," he added.

The Australian gaming market is currently dominated by operators including Tatts Group, Tabcorp, Sportingbet, Centrebet, and more recently Betfair Australia.
