February revenue rises despite recession at Pennsylvania casinos

Casinos included in the figures include Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, Philadelphia Park Casino and Racetrack, Harrah’s Chester Casino and Racetrack, Presque Isle Downs and Casino, The Meadows Racetrack and Casino and Mt. Airy Resort and Casino. A seventh casino, Hollywood Casino at National Penn Racecourse, was not included in the figures because it opened in mid-February 2008.

Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs set the pace, collecting us$ 17.8 million in revenue, a 43.5 % gain. In this market, Philadelphia Park Casino and Racetrack had revenue of us$ 30.4 million, a 6.45 % increase. However, Harrah’s Chester Casino and Racetrack reported revenue of us$ 27.9 million, a 1.89 % decline.

Two new slots parlors will open this year: the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem and the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh. Slots in Pennsylvania are taxed at a rate of 55 %.
