Compared to January 2008, however, statewide revenues were down us$ 3 million. Tax Commission records posted Tuesday show the Gulf Coast casinos grossed us$ 99.1 million in January, up from us$ 95.4 million in December but down about us$ 7 million from January 2008.

Casinos along the Mississippi River took in us$ 121.9 million in January, up about us$ 13 million from December and up us$ 4 million from January 2008. Casino revenue is the net amount of money won from gamblers. It is not profit. The gross earnings figure represents casino revenue only - separate from hotel, restaurant or bar revenues generated by the resorts.
