The online operator stated that the proposed Gambling Act legislation, which has been criticized widely since its release, favors monopolies such as Casinos Austria and is against European law.

The firm’s Co-Chief Executive Officers, Norbert Teufelberger and Manfred Bodner, are believed to be annoyed because they were not consulted in any way prior to the release of the proposals and responded by calling them “unconstitutional” and pointing to several court rulings in Austria said to prove such an opinion.

Teufelberger told Austrian news portal OE24.at that the firm currently employs 800 people around Vienna but would ’be unable to develop more technology’ if the proposals were passed as they are now. He stated that the company’s own proposed legislation could be ready to go to the Finance Ministry by next week and that Bwin would be ’perfectly willing’ to pay tax on the revenues it earns in Austria should the legal situation improve through reforms.
