China organizes professional horse races for the first time
A new horse racetrack that was built in the city, which features the largest TV screen in China -480 sqm.- will be the venue of this first race, next November 29th. For this event, horses from Mongolia have been imported, and horsemen from cities such as Beijing and Canton have been hired.
So far, just Hong Kong and Macau organized this type of event, because the two territories, former European colonies, are ruled by different laws from China, where the approval of this sport has been delayed fearing that it would encourage betting and games of chance, which are very limited, although very popular in the country.
Newspaper Xian Evening Paper pointed that a license has been demanded to release a horse lotto with Wuhan results, and pointed that Chinese authorities could authorize the move.
Other Chinese cities want to follow Wuhan example and organize both races as related bets, such as Canton, Beijing, Nankin, Shanghai, Chengdu and Jinan.
