UK: National Lottery ticket sales increased by 7.6% in the past six months

(UK).- Sales soared by more than us$ 298 million in the half year to September 27, Camelot said. A series of EuroMillions jackpots, Olympics-based games and other new formats helped drive sales, it continued.

Draw-based games increased by us$ 196 million (6.4%) while non draw-based games rose by us$ 105 million (11.9%). The us$ 298 million increase in total sales included a us$ 14.8 million rise in Lotto sales. Returns to good causes increased during the six months by us$ 63 million to us$ 1.1 billion, Camelot added.

More than us$ 576 million had been raised towards the us$ 1.2 billion target for contributions to the Olympic Lottery Distribution Fund. Camelot said the figures underlined its long-term strategy to increase sales by introducing new games and ways to play to appeal to a broad range of players.

About 70% of the UK adult population now played the National Lottery regularly, with players spending on average about us$ 4.94 a week, the operator said. Camelot Group chief executive Dianne Thompson said: "The National Lottery has now created more than 2,200 millionaires and has raised over us$ 36.2 billion for the good causes." She added that the firm was also "progressing well with preparations for the third lottery license".
