Regents and receivers rejected unanimously their support for a new place belonging to Caliente Group and Grupo Internacional Montecarlo.
Regent Ana Cristina Morcos said that the impact has been analyzed and the consecuences that betting games and draws may have on the behavior of people.
“This type of activities may generate difficulties in the life of some people, because it dominates their material, social, familiar and working obligations, and it would boost the loss of their jobs, because, when it becomes an addiction, it generates a decrease in its productivity, generating debts and possibly, criminal behaviors”, explained Morcos.
The city has 18 betting centres working in a legal or illegal way, and the number has grown since 2004, when there were only four.
On top of that, in the metropolitan zone, there are mini-casinos in small stores, it means, slots and video games that operate ilegally and, according to the people involved, pay a monthly fee to the council and the Attorney General Office of the Republic.
A legislation recently approved by the Local Congress may put in jail all those who have under-aged people in their business playing with this type of machines.
