Ambrose So, director of SJM, Louis Ng, director and chief operating officer of SJM, Angela Leong, director of SJM, and Frank McFadden, president of joint ventures and business developments of SJM, also joined Ho in the inspection.

The preliminary designs are the result of the first phase of an international architectural design competition that SJM launched in April. Six architects from USA, Europe and Hong Kong accepted the invitation to submit concept design proposals, namely, Dennis Lau & Ng Chun Man from Hong Kong, Leigh & Orange Ltd from Hong Kong, Simon Kwan & Associates Ltd from Hong Kong, Simon Kwan & Associates Ltd from Hong Kong, Paul Andreu from France and Progetto CMR from Italy.

Early next month, architects will present their proposals to a panel made up of senior executives of SJM and three advisors all of whom are highly qualified in architecture and its uses.

A company statement said that “the objective of the competition is to produce a concept design for a timeless iconic development that represents the energy and innovative character of SJM and of Macau. The design brief states that the mixed-use development must also be cost-effective in construction and commercially efficient.”

At yesterday’s preview Ho said, “It was in February 1970 that the Hotel Lisboa first opened its doors to greet customers from all over the world. Since then Hotel Lisboa has become a representation of Macau and a justifiable symbol of Macau's financial growth and success.”

“I am particularly excited about this next step in the evolution of the Hotel and Casino Lisboa and I am looking forward to delivering a property of which all Macau can feel proud,” he added.

According to a company statement, the preliminary designs will go on show to the public in the Grand Ballroom of the Grand Lisboa after the opening ceremony tomorrow afternoon, in a public exhibition to be opened by CEO Edmund Ho. The exhibition will run until August 3, and the judging is expected to start the next day.
