The new casino features a main slot machine gaming floor as well as three bars, a restaurant, a live music room and views over the city's River Clyde.

Harrah's stated that no expense had been spared in the development of the site but that, despite this, it would not be an exclusive venue and informal gamers looking for an afternoon drink would be welcome.

“As far as we’re concerned, the days of casinos being the domain of men in tuxedos are over,” said Nicola MacKenzie, Sales and Marketing Manager for Harrah's. “There’s no formal dress code, as long as you’re smart and tidy you will be more than welcome.”

The American firm had hoped to turn the Alea into the first British super-casino but that bid was quashed when Prime Minister Gordon Brown revoked plans to liberalize gambling restrictions last year.
