The "MGM Grand" marquee, struck in gold metallic letters and accompanied by the signature MGM Grand lion, will adorn the east and west sides of the hotel tower. Backlit with white neon light, the MGM Grand marquee, synonymous with the Las Vegas strip, will add a sense of glamour to the sleek sophistication of the property’s exterior wall of windows.
The installation of the marquee on the east side of the building, facing Route 2, began on November 20. When the final letter is in place and the marquee is backlit by 8,300 watt white neon bulbs construction of the marquee on the west side of the building will begin.
The marquee stands at 8 feet high and 78 feet long and totals 245 square feet. Weighing in at 1,780 pounds, the marquee is constructed of aluminum and acrylic and was fabricated by Philadelphia-based Sign Spec, an expert in all phases of sign production.
