US Internet Gambling Regulation Act hits 40 supporters
The latest to agree to co-sponsor the legislation first introduced by Massachusetts Representative Barney Frank, officially known as House of Representatives 2046, is James Moran. A Congressman from Virginia's Eighth Congressional District comprising the area directly across the Potomac River from Washington, DC, Democrat Moran is now in his ninth term in the House.
Support from the Virginian seems illogical as voting records show that he previously opposed online gambling and voted in 2003 in favour of a ban on Internet gambling using a credit card. He was even one of the many who voted to pass the unpopular Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) last October.
However, Moran, a member of the Appropriations Committee where he serves on the Defense Subcommittee and the Interior Subcommittee, seems to have taken a more balanced position in recent times and even agreed to co-sponsor Representative Robert Wexler’s Skill Game Protection Act in July.
