The federation also warned that it could take legal action against the French media, which it said was making “unfounded insinuations” against illegal betting by Italian players.

Tennis’ governing body, the ATP, is currently conducting an investigation into a match between fourth-ranked Nikolay Davydenko and Argentine Martin Vassallo, ranked 74, in Poland which saw Davydenko withdraw from the match amid irregular betting patterns.

Online firm Betfair also reported unusual betting patterns on a women's match in India two weeks ago, which saw Ukrainian Mariya Koryttseva, ranked 120, beat Tatiana Poutchek, number 96 from Belarus in straight sets. The Daily Telegraph reported that nearly us$ 2 million was bet on the outcome.
