International online gambling code launched at EiG expo

The code, which was presented to the leading online gaming jurisdictions and a select few media representatives, has been designed to act as a set of minimum standards throughout the industry and, it is hoped, increase levels of protection for players.

Covering the key areas of underage gambling, player protection measures, customer communication, advertising, promotions and staff training, the code was created over a period of several months through a joint effort by GamCare, eCOGRA and the Remote Gambling Association.

The timing of the launch was set to not only coincide with the EiG expo, one of the online gaming industry's biggest gatherings, but also follows the launch of the UK Gambling Commission's white list, which goes some way to protect UK players in terms of advertising.

Speaking at the conference, Andrew Poole, managing director of GamCare Trade Services, said: “[We] hope that the adoption of this code will better enable the gambling public to make informed decisions with regards to their remote gambling participation, secure in the knowledge that operators are required by condition of license to protect the welfare and enjoyment of their customers.”
