UK: DCMS discusses gaming tax renewal dates
Licensees will only have to pay gaming fees on their renewal date and not on September 1, when the new gaming laws come into effect.
The BBPA said that, as a result of discussions and the submission of legal advice from the industry, the DCMS has promised that pubs holding existing gaming machine permits with expiry dates after the first date of the regulations will not be liable for the fee charge.
Mark Hastings, BBPA director of communications, said "This is welcomed news, and will save pubs a great deal of money."
In further news, the UK government has ruled that pubs will be allowed to host poker games for a weekly prize limit of us$ 1,435, or us$ 205 per day, while giving no stake limits for domino and cribbage.
"It is also good to see that the department has adopted a common sense approach over poker, cribbage and dominoes," Hastings added. "Stakes were always likely to be small, and this has never been about gambling, but pub games as an entertainment alongside pub quizzes. It's great that pub players will be allowed to enjoy these games with modest stakes and a minimum of regulatory interference.”
