Thirty racecourses plus Ascot are planning to break away from SIS

William Hill could stop sponsoring the racing industry in UK

(UK).- William Hill has confirmed last week that its sponsorship of horse racing's major races could be withdrawn if the country's bigger racecourses pull out of their deal with Satellite Information Services (SIS).

Public relations director David Hood said: "We have to look at this in the cold light of day. Bookmakers have traditionally been the biggest benefactors to racecourses. Where is the common sense in placing money with tracks that are effectively going to war with us."

Thirty racecourses involved with satellite racing station Racing UK plus Ascot are currently planning to break away from SIS, which is a 50 per cent bookmaker owned company, and launch their own channel entitled Turf TV, for sale to betting shops.

In a warning shot to the racing industry, William Hill announced that it would sponsor 40 races at Arena Leisure-owned racecourses, which are not part of the breakaway group.
