Record in the number of bets in French casinos
(France).- During the season 2005-2006, the 193 gambling venues located in France have obtained a record in turnover: more than 2,700 million euros, which means a 2.16 per cent increment.

However, French casinos miss the golden age of the 90's, in which there was a very important growth: above 10 per cent annually. Since that moment, the growth has slowed down.
On top of that, trade unions are against a proyect that would include a decree that would allow the automation of traditional table games, such as black jack or roulettes.
Workers are afraid that this project would involve the loss of 3,500 employments. That's why they called for a strike on December 24th, one of the most profitable days for casinos in the whole year. The strike was followed by 30 of 50 main French casinos, according to the trade unions.
