Virginia: Hampton again setting its sights on casino gaming

After the state conducted an economic impact study, Hampton came back with its own showing three casinos could be lucrative in Hampton Roads. So far five cities -- Richmond, Danville, Bristol, Norfolk and Portsmouth -- have been approved to host casinos.

he Hampton City Council approved last week the latest round of requests for its legislative delegation, compiled by Richmond-based Two Capitols Consulting, including a casino proposal for the city.

So far five cities -- Richmond, Danville, Bristol, Norfolk, and Portsmouth -- have been approved to host casinos, the Daily Press reports.

After the state conducted an economic impact study, Hampton came back with its own showing three casinos could be lucrative in Hampton Roads. Norfolk and Portsmouth following referendums earlier this month received public nods to begin.

With Rosie’s Gaming Emporium succeeding so far in Hampton, city officials are optimistic its pitch this year for a casino license can be revisited during the coming General Assembly session.

“We’re hopeful,” says Mayor Donnie Tuck.
