Jai-alai, considered the “world’s fastest sport” with ball speeds exceeding 150 miles per hour, just launched an interactive fantasy league that offers weekly cash prizes. Magic City Jai-Alai in Miami launched its fantasy league earlier this summer, and it’s quickly gaining speed with an average 20% increase in weekly participation.
The live action is available at Magic City Jai-Alai’s virtual platform presented on YouTube's Jai-Alai Channel.
“The Magic City Jai-Alai Fantasy League is free, fun and a great way to learn about this resurgent sport,” said Scott Savin, Chief Operating Officer of Magic City Casino. “You’ll compete against other fantasy owners, scout players, and may even recognize a few faces from different leagues. The Magic City Jai-Alai athletes are seasoned, and the showmanship is real. The lineup includes former NFL and MLB athletes and a few of your favorite former Canes. Check out the fantasy league for a chance to win prizes and to discover what makes this game so exciting.”
Since 2018, jai-alai has been experiencing a resurgence in popularity, partly due to the efforts of Magic City Jai-Alai which took the approach of using local college athletes with little to no previous jai-alai experience to fill their roster and kick off a jai-alai program that year. Jai-alai, a sport with roots from the Basque region in Spain, is played round-robin style, in singles and doubles format. The games at Magic City Jai-Alai are played on a shorter court than traditional jai-alai, with glass back walls which makes the game faster paced.
The current season runs through November 30. The venue’s virtual fronton is presented on YouTube’s - The Jai-Alai Channel which offers reliable live game coverage and short-form videos like player profiles and tutorials.
