Under the independent MP's proposed legislation, apps or websites that take money from users to play but don't let them cash out, instead providing virtual chips, would be banned.

Australian independent Member of Parliament Andrew Wilkie has called on parliament to ban so-called "social casinos."

Under his proposed legislation, apps or websites that take money from users to play but do not let them cash out, instead providing virtual chips, would be banned. "Australia has a gambling problem," the Tasmanian MP told federal parliament on Wednesday.

He said in an interview with 3AW Drive that the online gambling websites were becoming a “real problem” and currently escaped legislation. “They basically replicate casino games,” he explained. “Online casinos are banned in Australia. These are not banned and it’s because they don’t pay out money.”
