The lockdown measures put in place to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 have had a negative impact in the igaming sector, which has seen a 90% fall in sports wagers, according to Ever Montero.

"The temporary suspension of most sporting events worldwide, such as national and international football championships and even the Olympic Games in Tokyo has led to a 90% drop in online bets in Colombia," Evert Montero said in a recent interview.

The president of Fecoljuegos, one of the top gambling trade associations in Colombia has called for the regulation of live casino so operators are able to stay afloat during the shutdown: "The plan is that the person in charge of the game can be in a studio, with the appropriate recording equipment and is able to interact with everyone who is connected so they can play virtually. This service is already been offered in Colombia, but is illegal."

He requested that the government suspended all obligations related to the payment of licensing fees and administrative expenses during the mandatory lockdown period.
