Spain’s gambling regulator Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) has issued 2019’s second quarterly report on the evolution of the online gambling market during the three-month period between April and June 2019. Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) amounted to EUR 178,35 M (USD 198.7 M), a 7.85% fall as compared to Q1 and a 6.69 % rise from the same period in 2018.
Other figures such as deposits and withdrawals’ variation rates were also down against the previous quarter. Marketing expenditure fell by 10.3 %, and new accounts were also down as compared to the previous quarter as well as year-on-year (YoY).
GGR (EUR 178,35 M) is broken down into the following segments: Betting, which amounted to 86.45 million (48.47%); Bingo, to 3.03 million (1.7%); Casinos, to 69.04 million (38.71%); Contests, to 0.47 million (0.26 %); and Poker, to 19.36 million (10.86 %).
The Betting segment dropped by 15.08% against Q1 2019 and 1.32% YoY. The variation was driven mainly by pre-match and live sports betting, which were down 31.76 % and 4.55 %, respectively, Quarter on Quarter (QoQ).
The Bingo segment fell by 5.88% QoQ and 7.74% YoY.
The Casinos segment saw a 3.97 % QoQ rise and was also up 22.24% YoY.
The Contests segment was down 49.98 % as compared to Q1 2019 but grew by 36.89% YoY.
Finally, the Poker segment dropped by 8.55% QoQ and 0.45% YoY.
