The Mayor of Ayia Napa officially inaugurated Wednesday the city’s first casino in the Cypriot holiday resort which is seen as an additional tourist leisure attraction.

C2 Ayia Napa is the third licensed satellite casino to open its doors in Cyprus by Melco, following Nicosia and Larnaca last year plus the original Limassol temporary casino, which will be replaced by the grand resort ‘City of Dreams Mediterranean’ in 2021. The new gaming hall was opened for the public on 15 July, located in the center of Ayia Napa’s tourist area, featuring 50 slot machines, with the restaurant Columbia Bistro operating inside.

Wednesday’s opening event was attended by prominent personalities including members of Ayia Napa’s Municipality Council, representatives of the Cyprus Hotel Association, and the Tourist Trade Industrial Company of Famagusta.

During the opening, Yiannis Karousos, Mayor of Ayia Napa, expressed his satisfaction that the casino was up and running. “We are particularly happy that Melco has chosen our municipality to operate its satellite casino in the district of Famagusta. I am confident that the new facilities we have inaugurated, in combination with Melco’s expertise and professionalism, will contribute to enhancing Ayia Napa’s tourism product,” Karousos said.

The Mayor said the casino will contribute to establishing Ayia Napa as a year-round destination. “We look forward to constructive cooperation that will create multiple benefits for the local economy and community,” he added.

Craig Ballantyne, Property President of Cyprus Casinos “C2” commented: “Ayia Napa certainly has a lot to offer and has always been a popular destination, both for Cyprus residents and tourists. Given the casino’s ideal location, the prospects opening up are promising. Coming close on the heels of C2’s 1st anniversary celebration last June and welcoming its one-millionth visitor, we remain committed to providing top-quality service, according to Melco’s international standards.”

Cyprus Casinos “C2” celebrated its one-millionth visitor on 26 July. Oana Georgiana Luca, a registered C2 Rewards Club member, was the one millionth visitor, specifically at C2 Limassol on 18 July. She was presented with a fine jewelry sponsored by Michalis Diamond Gallery worth five thousand euros as well as receiving a complimentary dinner for four at the Columbia Bistro at C2 Limassol.

Ballantyne also highlighted that more than 40 people are currently employed at C2 Ayia Napa and reaffirmed that Melco will continue to offer quality career opportunities to Cypriot citizens. Entrance is limited to persons over 21 years old and they do not have to pay an entrance fee or sign up for a membership. Ayia Napa casino is open from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. daily.
