Argentina: Buenos Aires City and BA Province agree on online gambling regulation
An agreement has already been passed from the autonomous city to the province, but neither government has issued a public announcement yet.

The Buenos Aires City’s Mayor and the Buenos Aires Province Governor are collectively working on an agreement to regulate online gambling in all of its modalities: slots, poker, sports betting and horse racing, among others.

rgentina's Capital City Mayor Rodríguez Larreta and BA Province Governor Vidal have also introduced a 2% tax on gambling prizes in their respective jurisdictions.

The Buenos Aires Autonomous City’s legislature discussed Thursday the creation of a Social Development and Integration Fund (FIDES in Spanish), which will be financed by 2% of the total prizes awarded by slot machines.

The BA Province government will try to have the province's legislative body approve next Friday a proposed tax law and the 2019 budget bill. In sections 142 and 143, the proposed tax law would regulate “electronic, computer, telematic and interactive” games. Some province municipality leaders from the opposition have expressed their views against the executive’s proposal.

La Nación, one of Argentina’s most influential journals, revealed that both leaders are collectively working on an agreement to regulate online gambling in all of its modalities: slots, poker, sports betting and horse racing, among others.

The agreement, which would see both jurisdictions implement the same online gambling regulatory framework, has already been passed from the autonomous city to the province, but neither government has issued a public announcement yet.
