In the first edition of the World Gaming Expo in Monaco, the EGT Interactive team seized the opportunity to meet Finnish professional poker player Patrik Antonius, and learn about the strategies Antonius implements whenever he gets his head in the game.

On the second day of the WGE in Monaco, the EGT Interactive team had an interesting meeting with Patrik Antonius, Finnish professional poker player and winner of the largest online poker hand in history (USD 1.356.946), who shared some knowledge and experience from his professional background.

As an experienced poker player, can you estimate what percentage of the winning combination is luck and what is skill?

I guess that in the long-term perspective it is all about skill. Even if you are unlucky over a certain period of time, inevitably there comes a moment when luck is in your favor. If you are taking, let’s say 10 years of time, into account – you will win, eventually.

What skills are needed to be successful in poker?

First, you should know the rules of the game, but that alone is not enough: you should also know yourself – your physical and emotional limits and when it is time to stop. Finally, you should study your opponents and try to predict their moves, while striving to stay unpredictable yourself.

Playing poker can be exhausting, what keeps you up?

Adrenaline. I recall this one time I played non-stop for several days, no sleep whatsoever, and adrenaline was the only thing that kept me going.

The EGT Interactive team would like to thank Patrik for sharing his experience with us, and wish him much luck in the upcoming tournaments. For further information and updates, please visit us at https://egt-interactive.com/
